Symptomatic neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection in a tertiary care teaching hospital: an observational prospective study

Background: The likelihood of newborns acquiring severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS- CoV-2) from infected mothers has raised concerns among families and clinicians worldwide. disease seems to be mild in children and, date; there are few reports neonatal population. aim the study was Prevalence Neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection a tertiary care teaching hospital. objective correlation clinical features laboratory parameters positive neonates.Methods: Prospective observational conducted dedicated COVID-19 hospital Postgraduate Institute Pune, Maharashtra between May 2020 August on sample size 55 COVID suspect neonates as they were admitted diagnosed during pandemic.Results: Out 250 admitted, their symptomatic. Among neonates, 11 turned out (20%). tachypnea with requirement non-invasive O2 (18%), feeding intolerance fever (18%) rash 1 (9%) seen. 45% had elevated D-Dimer levels, 36% Leucocyte counts, 27% each serum ferritin fibrinogen levels 18% CRP Levels.Conclusions: We conclude that inspite first wave seen which rare then, markers showed good co-relation our all who but no radiological any. However, recovered symptomatic treatment without any specific treatment.
